Many of these women have been caught in the cogs of family court fighting for the protective custody of their children. In spite of credible disclosures of abuse and expert testimony regarding concern for the children’s safety, courts often favor father’s rights over children’s safety. Many of these mothers, initially, took out credit cards which were quickly depleted to pay for a lawyer. The Mustard Seed hires lawyers to fight the battle. It is a tenacious and expensive process but with much prayer and diligence children are finally given needed protection.

Financial Assistance

All of the women and children live in their own housing. We have helped some move into safer, healthier housing, supplementing their income in order to cover rent. The majority of ladies work in the service industry with hourly wages. When work is missed due to court, sick children, medical appointments they are not paid. A large piece of the Mustard Seed is to lift this pressure and fill in the gaps when needed. The ladies are accountable to share with the ministry their budgets and expenditures. There is often a need to pay off credit card debt accrued from legal bills and living expenses, as well as psychologist bills. None of these ladies have ever lived extravagantly. The Mustard Seed works with the credit card companies toward paying off this debt. Our goal is to enable the ladies to live without accruing debt.

Vehicle Repair and Replacement

Vehicles that have died or in need of repair has been a constant issue for these ladies over the years. When there are such problems it greatly affects work. Over the years we have replaced many vehicles, oftentimes replaced worn tires for new, as well as provided monies for car repair.

Emergency Help

Sometimes there are dental or medical emergencies not covered by insurance. At times cancer has struck a young mother requiring financial assistance to cover bills through treatment. Children have been in need of orthodontic care. A furnace is in need of repair, etc. We are committed to helping with these emergencies.
